How many invitations did Newfoundland and Labrador issue in October?

This update is part of the Provincial nominee draws hub, with the Permanent residence guide. The province issued 257 provincial immigration invitations across two draws on October 9 and October 16, 2026. On October 16 the Office of Immigration and Culturalism sent 130 invitations under the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program and one under the Atlantic Immigration Program. On October 9 it issued 125 NLPNP invitations and one AIP invitation.

Two hundred fifty five of the combined invitations were NLPNP and two were AIP. As of October 16, Newfoundland and Labrador had held 18 provincial immigration draws in 2026 and issued 2,952 invitations in total for the year.

What do the year to date invitation totals mean if you are applying?

The 2,952 figure is the count of provincial immigration invitations sent through mid October 2026, not approved nominations or permanent residence grants. Of that total, 2,555 invitations went to NLPNP candidates and 397 to AIP candidates. Invitations in 14 rounds covered both programs; four rounds were NLPNP only.

Receiving an invitation is a step toward provincial nomination or AIP endorsement. You still must submit a complete application to the province within 60 days of the invitation, pass provincial assessment, and then apply to the federal government for permanent residence. The source did not publish which NLPNP streams, sectors, or occupations were targeted in the October 9 and 16 selections.

What must invited candidates do next?

Invited candidates have up to 60 days to submit a complete application to the province for nomination through the NLPNP or endorsement through the AIP. After approval they receive a provincial nomination or endorsement certificate and may submit a permanent residence application to the federal government.

Foreign nationals typically enter the pool by meeting eligibility for the AIP or an NLPNP stream and submitting an Expression of Interest profile. Draws follow provincial priorities including employment in health care, employment outside major urban centres, and graduation from a Newfoundland and Labrador post secondary institution. Details are on the province’s Expression of Interest Model Prioritization Criteria web page.

Can nominees or endorsed workers work in Canada while PR is processed?

Nominees in Canada applying through the base PNP may apply for a bridging open work permit without first receiving the Acknowledgement of Receipt for their permanent residence application, under a temporary federal measure in effect from June 9, 2026. Workers endorsed under the AIP may qualify for an employer specific work permit valid for up to two years.
