Candidates also needed to meet the minimum work experience for the Trades category.

Canada has held 59 Express Entry draws in 2026. This year, IRCC has issued 135,215 Invitations to Apply across various Express Entry draw types. The Trades category has seen one draw in 2026, with 3,000 ITAs issued for this specific category. Express Entry selection activity has continued to focus on candidates with ties to Canada, particularly provincial nominees and those with Canadian work experience.

Foreign nationals in Canada who have applied for permanent residence through Express Entry may be eligible for a Bridging Open Work Permit. If their current work permit expires before a decision on the Bridging Open Work Permit is issued, maintained status can preserve their work authorization under the same conditions, provided they continue to reside in Canada. Qualifying family members can also apply for an open work permit.
